FUNDED PROJECTS - ARCHIVE:
1. ASSOCIAZIONE LUCREZIA MARINELLI
- 3.460 € donated for purchasing equipment required for film’s screening and DVDS’ production.
WHAT IS THE ASSOCIAZIONE LUCREZIA MARINELLI: “Lucrezia Marinelli was founded in Sesto S. Giovanni (north Milan’s outskirts) as the realization of ten women’s desire to better understand symbolic action, especially feminine ones. The passion for cinema of Nilde Vinci, founder of the Association, led all the others women to the idea of analyzing film images produced by women directors. We wanted to discover how and how much the changes of the last few years had affected their achievements. This interest permitted us to propose our work to others (both women and men). Our work during these years has markedly increased.”
WHAT DOES THE ASSOCIAZIONE LUCREZIA MARINELLI DO: “We do politics, using the films of women directors. We founded the Documentation Center on Women Directors’ Cinema, with a video library and an archive of bio bibliographic cards, constantly updated. We organize Films Festivals in Sesto S. Giovanni, in partnership with the Sestese Municipality, and we offer consultation to other groups organizing similar events. We provide consultation for unions, social centers and libraries. We print L’Occhio delle Donne (Women’s Eye), a videos’ List, continuously updated, advertising our films’ library. We began publishing L’Occhio delle Donne - Bio-filmic Dictionary of Women Directors in 1896.”
2. ASSOCIAZIONE PER CONTRADE:
Contrada
Zecca 284 Monopoli, Bari (Italy)
“It is an association of nine women aiming to promote and to advance culture and social sensibility in identifying and appreciating the Apulia rural territory and all of its natural resources; sustaining and encouraging women's culture in all its forms; circulating and developing the concept of responsible and affordable tourism; promoting the association as a place of encounter and bringing women together in the name of cultural interests, performing the social function of human and civil maturation and growth, and respecting and supporting differences."
WHAT DOES THE ASSOCIAZIONE PER CONTRADE DO :
"The association chose the Masseria Santanna as a location
to develop its social activities. Many collaborations are in progress,
with Associations and Social Cooperatives, dealing with protecting and
safeguarding rural territory and Apulia countryside traditions, and with
the Associazione Desiderandae, with which there is a privileged
partnership. The Masseria Santanna is an ancient protected
agricultural structure, built in 1857. It is situated in the middle of
attractive hills of Valle d'Itria, surrounded by olive trees and
pastures, a few miles from the wonderful sea of Apulia coast. The
Masseria measures 500 sq. m. on two levels, and has 7 rooms, 7
bathrooms, a large kitchen and two living rooms; it is surrounded by
three acres of gardens, pathways and courts. In this beautiful structure
the Associazione Per Contrade offers accommodations in double or triple
rooms with private bathroom, and breakfast. Arrangements can be made to
accommodate pets. (For info and reservations:
3. CIRCOLO DELLE DONNE RICICIP
-
25.000 €
donated for restructuring the Association’s headquarters
WHAT IS
THE CIRCOLO CULTURALE E POLITICO DELLE DONNE Founded in the early 80’s by Daniela Pellegrini, Giorgia Reiser and Nadia Riva as Cicip & Ciciap, this Women's' Club is an historic institution of women’s movement, in Milan, in Italy, and all over the world. For twenty years, it was managed by Nadia and Daniela as a Club of Women for Women. Here it was possible to meet, talk, reason and analyse, drink and eat, attend shows, organize parties and debates. Then, after a dark period which nearly closed the Club, some light began to shine. In 2004, the Club was completely refurbished. Nine active women along with the two Founders have given a new life to the original project.
Reopened with a grand party in November 2004, the Ricicip has now more than five hundreds members and is once again a crucial reference place for thousands of women.
Today the Circolo delle Donne Ricicip is an Association of women different among themselves in age, experiences and political practices, personal histories, social position and sentimental life. “In common, we do not have any powerful certainty. Many of us are convinced, for instance, that feminine emancipation – meant as imitation of male values and models – bring to women harm and failure rather than untie hindrances and impediments. Many are convinced that political separatism is crucial to give strength to each woman and favour every woman’s freedom. And that the practice of these relationships produce important, positive and even revolutionary outcomes. Some of us, on the contrary, are not entirely persuaded of this and think that through feminine action, regardless of practices, passes every improvement. We maintain an open mind about these and other contradiction, in the practice of relationships.“
4.
CASA DI ACCOGLIENZA DELLE DONNE MALTRATTATE: - total 50.000 € in two years, donated for carrying on the project Arising from Desert.
WHAT IS THE CASA DI ACCOGLIENZA DELLE DONNE MALTRATTATE: Born from U.D.I.’s experience (Unione Donne Italiane, Italian Women Union) and founded in 1986, the CADM, a volunteering Association – onlus, has exclusive solidarity purposes. Its actions are meant to recognize the value in feminine genre, stating the feminine body’s freedom and inviolability, increasing the value of cultural and ethnic differences as a fundamental resource for getting out of violence, safeguarding against the loss of rights, and answering the needs of women who suffered ill-treatments and/or violence in the family and in the community. “Providing women an avenue to regain value and self-esteem in relationships with other women who then become points of reference and provide support so those ill-treated can walk away or escape from violence is our way of articulating the practice of sexual difference in our work. In every moment of listening and learning of the projects’ delineation, of hospitality, these relationships are the starting point for decisions and choices. Our methodology, developed and diffused by CADM throughout Italy and through other European projects, puts the ill-treated woman at the centre of her own history, and hopefully with this support, she can gain the courage to walk away from violence. Many volunteers participated in the conception and development of CADM’s project. Maltreated women talked to us and showed us the most important elements of our research: emergence from dependence, competition with their own history and with the history of the men who did them violence, recognition of the damages from this suffering, transformation of the pain into insight and action, re-establishment of positive family networks, and the understanding of children’s distress. The Casa delle Donne Maltrattate continues to search for new and realistic ways to help women and for actualizing relationships between women, i.e. the means of accomplishment and motivation of every formative event, of research and of new methodologies’ revelations and promotion.”
CADM “manages legal and psychological consultant services, hospitality and care, professional advice, pedagogical and psychometric support to the women who suffered or suffer violence and mistreatments. It offers hospitality in its shelters to the women and to their children, if necessary, guaranteeing the women presenting themselves to the Association anonymity and secrecy. Arising from desert is a pilot project, unique of its kind in Italy, dedicated to young women with problems of sexual abuse inside their family. Arising from desert because these women live their problems in a kind of nowhere land, out of sight, out of the protection of Juvenile Court and with no alternative points of reference.”

“The realization of this docudrama is in our opinion necessary, as it is the only way for offering to a vast public the knowledge of an ancient history, cancelled from historic memory of European peoples but still able to inspire various considerations and reflections, apart from opening original questions, Fulcrum of the dramatized chronicle is the exceptional story of Margherita Porete from Valenciennes, France, in some way and without doubt more extraordinary than Joan of Arc’s life. Between XII and XIV centuries, a deep spiritual crisis - linked to Church’s moral deterioration and corruption – enfolds the society. That produced the development of many religious sects and heretical movements, longing for a return to the evangelic simplicity. Among these movements, a feminine thought and way of being develops, which has no comparison in the history as for originality, intensity and diffusion. The Beguines’ Movement. The symbolic summary of Beguines’ Movement is represented by Margherita Porete from Valenciennes, and her tragic burning death as heretical relapsa, i.e. recidivist and not repented, just for writing one single book: The Mirror of Simple Souls, unanimously considered today by scholars as the masterpiece of spiritual literature. The whole Beguines’ history has then been cancelled from history, as cancelled were lives and works of many protagonists. Aim of the docudrama is to review this history in its truth, and in its cultural, political, social perspective.”

ASSOCIATION TALENTS DE FEMMES WHAT IS AND WHAT DOES THE ASSOCIATION TALENTS DE FEMMES DO: Some women from Libreria delle Donne di Milano involved us in this project. Here is their letter. (You can obviously contribute, please find the data for post payment at the end)
Odile Sankara is a Burkinabé theatre and cinema
artist. Her specialty is narration: she collects her country’s
histories, and chooses them in order to tell them in French – the
official language, due to colonization – but with the traditional
African style, accompanying them with singing and dance. She and her
Association make theatre as a feminine taking of conscience and a
valorization of woman artist. Sankara is a famous name in her country
and in whole Africa: her brother Thomas Sankara has been the beloved
Burkina’s president from 1983 until 1987, when he was killed. It’s owed
to him the change of name, from Upper Volta into “honest men’s Country”
– as the words Burkina Faso
can be
approximately translated. And right to
those years is also owed the cultural awakening that still animates this
Country, one of the poorest in Africa. In 1992 Odile founded "Talents de
femmes"., with her comrades Marceline Compaoré e Léontine Ouédrago. The
Association has its headquarters in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso’s capital,
and is nowadays composed by about twenty among teachers, literates,
choreographers, actresses, educators and cultural assistants. They aim
to promote feminine talent in every sphere of arts and show, and let the
feminine word emerge, - as a women’s contribution to Burkina’s culture.
In these years, the Association carried out several spectacles, promoted
discussions, organized Festivals.

In 1992, AIDOS was authorized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to manage public funds for the implementation of development cooperation projects. Right from the start, AIDOS has worked in developing countries, in Italy and with international organizations to build, promote and defend the rights, dignity, well-being and progress of women everywhere. From one project and campaign to another, AIDOS works in partnership with local organizations and institutions to provide women and their organizations with instruments from the areas of experience of the women’s movement in Italy that have been most successful.”
WHAT DOES AIDOS DO: ”The AIDOS approach is based on the ongoing dialogue and partnership with women’s and non-governmental organizations worldwide, based on the roots and the Italian women’s movement. AIDOS also does important work in collaboration with the United Nations system: AIDOS hold special consultant status with ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council of the United Nations), and is the Italian focal point for INSTRAW (United Nations International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women) and UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund).”
